  ââ¬Å"Cousin Nancyâ⬠ and ââ¬Å"Morning at the Windowâ⬠ Poem Analysis and Exploration    Cousin Nancy     By T. S. Eliot                        Miss Nancy Ellicott    Strode across the hills and broke them,    Rode across the hills and broke them ââ¬â    The barren New England hills ââ¬â    Riding to hounds    Over the cow-pasture.    Miss Nancy Ellicott smoked    And danced all the modern dances;    And her aunts were not quite sure how they felt about it,    But they knew that it was modern.    Upon the glazen shelves kept watch    Matthew and Waldo, guardians of the faith,    The army of unalterable law.    Morning at the Window    T. S. Eliot, 1888 - 1965    They are rattling breakfast plates in basement kitchens,      And along the trampled edges of the street      I am aware of the damp souls of housemaids      Sprouting despondently at area gates.    The brown waves of fog toss up to me              Twisted faces from the bottom of the street,      And tear from a passer-by with muddy skirts      An aimless smile that hovers in the air      And vanishes along the level of the roofs.
